When Your Heart Is Broken: Revelation 21:4

When Your Heart Is Broken: Revelation 21:4

Love your Legacy Devotional ~ By Tay

Opening Prayer

Jesus, I have cried so many tears I have lost count.

But You have not. You have kept every one. Thank You for treating my grief like something precious instead of something to mop up.

One day You will wipe them all away. Until then, hold them for me.

Amen.

Scripture

Revelation 21:4

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

Reflection

Most of us have a box somewhere.

Ticket stubs from a concert that mattered. A dried flower from a wedding. A hospital bracelet folded into an envelope. A child’s drawing, edges soft with age. We keep these things because they meant something. Nobody keeps what does not matter.

God keeps boxes too.

David wrote it plainly in Psalm 56:8: “Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll, are they not in your record?” Your tears are on record in heaven. Every one. The ones you cried in the hospital parking lot. The ones that soaked the pillow at 3 a.m. The ones that surprised you in the grocery aisle when a song came on. None of them fell unnoticed. None of them are wasted.

That is what makes our verse so tender. The same God who keeps your tears is the God who will one day wipe them away. Keeping comes before wiping. He honours them first. He says, in effect, I saw. It mattered. I wrote it down.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.” Not some tears. Not the reasonable ones. Every tear. The tears you are embarrassed about. The tears you cried over something small that was really about something big. The tears no one else ever saw. All of them, gently wiped by the hand of God Himself.

“There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.” Read that list like a reversal of everything that has ever hurt you. Death, undone. Mourning, ended. Crying, finished. Pain, gone. “For the old order of things has passed away.” The world as you know it, the one where hearts break and people leave and bodies fail, is not the final version. It is the old order. A new one is coming.

Today you may still be in the keeping season. The tears are still being recorded, still being honoured. But the wiping season is promised, and the One who promised it has never broken a promise yet.

Your tears are safe with Him. And one day, by His own hand, they will be gone.

Journaling

  1. What tears have you been treating as wasted or silly, that God has actually been keeping?

You might start with something like: I cried over a burnt dinner last week, but it was really about everything I have lost this year.

  2. How does it feel to know your grief is on record in heaven, honoured instead of dismissed?

It might be something small and honest, like: it feels like someone finally believes me about how much it hurt.

  3. What would it look like to live today in the hope of the wiping, even while you are still in the keeping?

You could gently say: I would cry without shame, knowing each tear has a destination and an ending.

Closing Prayer

Jesus, Keeper of my tears,

Thank You for the box in heaven with my name on it. Thank You for recording what the world told me to get over. I trust You with every tear, and I trust Your promise that one day, by Your own gentle hand, they will all be wiped away.

Until then, keep them. They mattered.

Need Prayer? We would love to pray for you.

Amen.
