When You Need Guidance, Wisdom, or Clarity: Psalm 32:8
Love your Legacy Devotional ~ By Tay
Opening Prayer
Jesus, I am trying to figure this out alone and it is not working.
My thoughts are tangled and every path looks the same. Sit with me in this decision. Be the voice of wisdom I cannot hear on my own.
I need Your counsel, Lord.
Amen.
Scripture Reading
Psalm 32:8
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”
Devotional Reflection
Have you ever tried to assemble furniture alone at midnight? The diagram makes no sense. There are leftover screws that clearly belong somewhere important. You are sitting on the floor surrounded by wooden panels, holding an Allen key, wondering how something with twelve steps could be this confusing. Now imagine someone walking in who has built this exact piece a dozen times, sitting down beside you and saying, “Here, let me show you.”
That is this verse.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.” God does not hand you the manual and leave the room. He sits on the floor with you. Instruction is information. Teaching is formation. He does both, patiently, at the pace you can follow.
“I will counsel you.” A counselor does not decide for you. A counselor helps you see clearly enough to decide well. God honours your freedom even while He guides it. He will not drag you down the right road. He will walk it with you until you recognise it yourself.
“With my loving eye on you.” This is the phrase to hold onto. Not His watchful eye, like a supervisor waiting for you to mess up. His loving eye. The eye of a parent watching a child take first steps across the room, arms out, ready, delighting in every wobbly step. You are not being monitored. You are being cherished.
You do not have to figure everything out alone.
That sentence might be the whole sermon. So much of our exhaustion comes from the quiet belief that the decision is entirely up to us, that if we choose wrong, it is all on us. But you have a Counselor. You have a Teacher. You have the loving eye of God on you right now, in this exact decision, and He has never once guided someone He loves into a ditch.
So stop sitting alone on the floor with the Allen key. The One who wrote the instructions is here, and He is very good at this.
Journaling Reflection
-
What are you trying to figure out alone right now that you have not fully brought to Him?
You might start with something like: the care decision for my mom. I keep researching and crying and have barely prayed about it.
-
What is the difference, in your heart, between being watched and being watched over with love?
It might be something honest, like: being watched makes me perform, but being watched over makes me feel safe enough to be honest.
-
If God counselled you about this decision today, what is the first question you would ask Him?
You could gently say: I would ask whether I am supposed to fix this or release it, because I genuinely cannot tell anymore.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, my Counselor,
Thank You for sitting on the floor with me instead of shouting instructions from the doorway. Thank You for the loving eye, the patient teaching, the counsel that honours my freedom.
I will stop figuring this out alone. Instruct me. Teach me. Show me the way I should go, and I will follow.
Amen.
