DEVOTIONALS ~ WHEN YOU FEEL ALONE
When You Feel Alone: Deuteronomy 31:6
Love your Legacy Devotional ~ By Tay
Opening Prayer
Jesus, some days the alone-ness sits down beside me like it owns the chair.
You know the people who were supposed to stay and did not. You know the messages that went unanswered and the plans that quietly dissolved. Help me hear Your voice louder than their leaving today.
You go with me. Teach my heart to rest in that.
Amen.
Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Devotional Reflection
There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over a house after everyone has gone home.
The dishes are still warm in the rack. The couch still holds the shape of company. You turn off the porch light and the street goes dark, and something in you whispers, everyone has somewhere to be except here with me.
Israel knew that quiet too.
Moses had led them for forty years. He was their leader, their intercessor, the one who climbed the mountain for them. Now he stood before the whole nation and told them he was one hundred and twenty years old and would not be crossing the river with them. Their person was leaving. The future they had imagined with him in it was being rewritten in front of them.
That is the exact moment Moses speaks our verse. Not on a mountaintop of victory, but at a goodbye.
“Do not be afraid or terrified because of them.” Them, the giants across the river, the unknowns, the things that loom larger when you are standing alone. Moses does not pretend the giants are small. He names the fear honestly, then anchors it: “for the LORD your God goes with you.”
Notice the direction of the promise. God goes with you. Not ahead of you like a distant guide you have to chase. Not behind you like someone waving from the shore. With you, step for step, into the part of the story you did not choose to walk alone.
The abandonment others gave you is not the abandonment God gives. People leave for reasons that have everything to do with them and nothing to do with your worth. Plans dissolve. Friendships drift. The people you counted on find somewhere else to be. His nearness does not work that way. It is constant, not conditional. It does not check your mood, your performance, or your history before deciding to stay.
“He will never leave you nor forsake you.” In the original language, that promise is doubled, stacked one never on top of another, as if God wanted to make absolutely sure no anxious heart could miss it. Never. Nor ever.
Today, the room may still be quiet. The giants across your river may still be standing. But quiet is not the same as alone. The One who goes with you is already in tomorrow, holding the door open.
Journaling Reflection
-
Who was supposed to stay, and what did their leaving whisper to your heart about your worth?
You might start with something like: I keep hearing that their leaving meant something about me, and I am not sure I believe otherwise yet.
-
What giants look bigger to you right now simply because you feel alone facing them?
It might be something small and honest, like: paying the bills feels heavier at night, or making one phone call feels enormous today.
-
What would it look like to picture God going with you into this week, step for step?
You could gently say: I see Him beside me in the car, at the kitchen table, in the waiting room, not ahead and not behind.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, thank You for not being a God who waves from the shore.
When the house is quiet and the giants look tall, go with me. Remind my heart that no one’s leaving gets the final word on my worth, because You have already spoken Yours.
You go with me. I will lean on that today.
Need Prayer? We would love to pray for you.
Amen.
