HOLY WEEK ~ HOLY SATURDAY
Holy Saturday: Trusting God in the Silence
Love your Legacy Devotional ~ By Tay
Opening Prayer
Jesus, today feels quiet.
There are moments in life where everything slows down and it almost feels like nothing is happening. Prayers have been spoken, tears have been shed, and yet there is this stillness that sits heavy on the heart.
Help me not rush past this space. Help me to trust you here, even when I don’t see movement.
Even in the silence, you are still God. Even in the waiting, you are still working. Let my heart rest in that truth today.
Amen.
Scripture Reading
Matthew 27:57 to 66
Lamentations 3:25 to 33
Psalm 16:9 to 11
Devotional Reflection
Saturday is the day that sits quietly between heartbreak and miracle.
Friday carried the pain. Sunday will carry the joy. But Saturday… Saturday holds the silence.
Jesus has been laid in the tomb. The stone is in place. Everything looks final. The people who loved him are left sitting in confusion, grief, and unanswered questions. What they hoped for feels like it has been buried.
And heaven is quiet.
There is no visible sign that anything is happening. No voice, no movement, no breakthrough. Just stillness.
This is the space many of us know.
The place where you have prayed and are still waiting. The place where you are trying to trust God, but you cannot see him moving. The place where your heart quietly asks, what now?
But what no one could see on that Saturday was that God was not absent. He was working in the deepest way possible.
While the stone stood firm, resurrection was already unfolding. While it looked like the end, it was actually the turning point.
Lamentations gently reminds us that the Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It says it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
Not in panic. Not in striving. Just quietly.
That kind of waiting is not easy. It asks you to trust without proof. To believe without seeing. To rest your heart in God when everything around you feels uncertain.
Psalm 16 carries a quiet promise, one that would only fully make sense later. That God would not abandon his Holy One. That even in what looked like death, there was a path to life.
Saturday teaches something sacred.
Silence does not mean God is absent. Waiting does not mean he has forgotten you.
It simply means the story is still unfolding.
Journaling Reflection
-
Where in my life does it feel quiet right now… like I am waiting and not seeing anything change?
Sometimes just noticing that space, without needing to name it or fix it, can be enough for today.
-
Why does it feel like God is silent in this part of my life?
There may be more happening beneath the surface than what can be seen or felt right now… even if it doesn’t feel that way yet.
-
What would it look like for me to trust God here, even without answers?
It might be something small and gentle… like taking a breath, loosening your grip just a little, or simply sitting with him in the quiet.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, you understand this place of waiting.
You have been in the silence, in the stillness, in the space where everything feels uncertain, you know what it is to trust the Father when nothing looks like it is moving.
Teach me how to trust you here. Not just when I see answers, but when I don’t.
Calm the parts of my heart that want to rush ahead or fear that nothing is happening. Remind me that you are always working, even when I cannot see it.
I place my waiting, my questions, and my hopes into your hands.
You are faithful in every part of the story, even the quiet middle.
I trust you, Jesus.
Amen.
