Week 6 for Kids: When You Feel All Empty
The full week of readings, a colouring page for every day, and a star tracker in one printable PDF. Free, with love.
Being tired sleeps off. Feeling all empty is different, and God knows exactly how to fill you back up.
How this week works: A little bit each day. Seven short readings, one for each day. Each day has one verse, one thing to think about, and a short prayer. There is no falling behind.
Day 1: My Soul Finds Rest in God
Scripture: “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.” (Psalm 62:1)
There are two kinds of tired. One kind says, “I need a nap.” The other kind says, “I feel all empty inside, and a nap does not fix it.” That second kind has a name. It is what happens when we give and give and give, and nobody refills us, including ourselves.
Here is the best news of the week. God is a refiller. Rest in Him is not only sleep. It is your soul being topped back up by the One who made it.
Think about it: On a scale of full to empty, how does your heart feel today? Tell God the true answer.
Prayer: God, I feel emptier than I say out loud. Fill me back up with Your rest. Amen.
Day 2: Strength for the Weary
Scripture: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29)
Weary means worn out, like a favourite shirt that has been washed a hundred times. God does not scold the weary. He gives them strength. That is the whole promise: He gives. We receive.
You do not have to be the strong one every day. You do not have to carry everyone’s feelings, fix everyone’s problems, and still smile like it is easy. Even helpers need help. Even leaders need leading back to rest.
Think about it: What is something you have been carrying that feels too heavy for a kid’s shoulders?
Prayer: Lord, I am weary, and You said You give strength to the weary. I am asking. Amen.
Day 3: I Will Refresh the Weary
Scripture: “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” (Jeremiah 31:25)
Refresh means to make fresh again, like cold water on a hot day, or rain on a dusty garden. God says He will do that for tired people. Not might. Will.
When you feel dry inside, you do not need to try harder or pray fancier. A dry sponge does not need a lecture. It needs water. Sit with God, be honest about the dryness, and let Him do the refreshing His way, in His time.
Think about it: What refreshes you most: quiet, music, being outside, a hug, a nap? Thank God for one of them.
Prayer: God, refresh me like rain on a garden. I do not need more pressure. I need You. Amen.
Day 4: He Refreshes My Soul
Scripture: “He refreshes my soul.” (Psalm 23:3)
A shepherd does not shout at a tired sheep. He leads it to still water and lets it drink. He carries the lamb that cannot keep up. That is Jesus with you. He is not a boss with a clipboard, checking whether you did enough today. He is a Shepherd who knows when you are done, and who calls done a fine place to rest.
Lay the clipboard down today. You were never His employee. You are His beloved, and beloveds get to rest.
Think about it: What is one thing you can lay down today and let the Shepherd carry?
Prayer: Jesus, my Shepherd, carry what I cannot carry. Refresh my soul. Amen.
Day 5: Renewed Strength
Scripture: “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.” (Isaiah 40:31)
Renew means made new again, like a battery recharged or a garden after rain. This verse says hoping in God is how the recharging happens. Not hoping in being popular. Not hoping in never making a mistake. Hoping in Him.
Feeling all empty heals gently, not dramatically. Slower mornings. Earlier bedtimes. Real food and water. Less noise. One thing dropped from the list that never needed to be there. Small gentleness, repeated, refills the well.
Think about it: What is one gentle thing you can do for yourself this week?
Prayer: God, renew my strength as I hope in You. Teach me to be gentle with myself. Amen.
Day 6: Renewed Day by Day
Scripture: “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)
Day by day. Not all at once. Not by Friday. God renews us the way morning comes: gradually, then all at once, and always on time.
One of His favourite ways to refill us is through people. A teacher who notices. A friend who shares. A grown-up who says, “Sit down. I will take care of this one.” Letting someone help you is not weakness. It is how the day by day renewing often arrives, carrying a casserole or a kind word.
Think about it: Who is one person who helps refill you? Have you let them help lately?
Prayer: Father, renew me day by day, and give me the grace to accept help when it comes. Amen.
Day 7: He Gives Back What Was Eaten
Scripture: “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten.” (Joel 2:25)
Locusts are insects that can eat a whole field in a day, leaving nothing green behind. God makes a promise to people who feel like the locusts got their best years: I will repay. What was eaten, I will give back, in deeper measure.
Maybe hard days ate your joy for a while. Maybe tiredness ate your energy and your fun. God sees all of it, and He is a God who gives back. Slowly, faithfully, the well refills, drop by drop, the way rain fills a bucket while you sleep.
Prayer: God, thank You for being the God who gives back. Refill my joy, my energy, and my peace. I receive Your refilling. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Blessing to Close the Week
You did it. Seven days of learning how God refills an empty well. Carry this sentence with you all week: He is refilling me, drop by drop.
If a day ever feels too heavy, tell a grown-up you trust. Ask them to pray with you. Asking for help is brave, and God loves to send help through people.
Rest today. Your well is refilling, because He says it will. He is right here in the quiet with you.
