BIBLE STUDIES FOR KIDS
Week 5 for Kids: You Can Choose a New Path
The full week of readings, a colouring page for every day, and a star tracker in one printable PDF. Free, with love.
A path you walk a hundred times is easy to find. This week we learn that old paths can change, and you get to help choose the new one.
How this week works: A little bit each day. Seven short readings, one for each day. Each day has one verse, one thing to think about, and a short prayer. There is no falling behind.
Day 1: Do Not Copy the Old Pattern
Scripture: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
A pattern is something that repeats, like stripes on a shirt or the same song playing again and again. Families have patterns too. Some are wonderful, like Sunday pancakes. Some are not so wonderful, like shouting when people are upset, or going silent and never saying sorry.
Here is the good news. A pattern is not a cage. God can renew your mind, which means He can teach your heart a brand new way, one small choice at a time.
Think about it: What is one good pattern in your family you want to keep? What is one pattern you would like to change someday?
Prayer: God, renew my mind. Teach me Your patterns, not the old ones. Amen.
Day 2: A New Heart
Scripture: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.” (Ezekiel 36:26)
God does not just patch up an old heart with tape and hope it holds. He promises a new one. New feelings. New courage. New kindness growing where grumpiness used to live.
That does not happen all in one day. It happens the way a garden grows: a sprout, then a stem, then a flower. You may not see it changing day by day, but one morning you will notice you handled something in a whole new way, and you will know the new heart is growing.
Think about it: What is one way you have already grown kinder or braver this year?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the new heart You are growing in me. Keep it growing. Amen.
Day 3: Set Free
Scripture: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” (Galatians 5:1)
Jesus did not set you free so you could stay stuck. He set you free so you could walk free. Free from old habits. Free from words that were spoken over you that were never true. Free to become who God dreamed you would be.
Freedom is practised in small steps. Telling the truth when a lie would be easier. Saying sorry first. Walking away from a fight instead of joining it. Every small free step makes the path wider.
Think about it: What is one small free step you could take this week?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for setting me free. Show me my next small step. Amen.
Day 4: The New Creation Has Come
Scripture: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
When a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, nobody calls it a caterpillar with wings. It is a new creation. That is what God says about you in Christ. The old has gone. The new is here.
That means your worst day does not get the final word about you. Your family’s hardest chapters do not get the final word either. God is writing something new, and He writes with love, in ink that does not smudge.
Think about it: If God were writing a new chapter about you, what would you love for it to say?
Prayer: Father, thank You that in Jesus I am a new creation. Write Your story in me. Amen.
Day 5: See, I Am Doing a New Thing
Scripture: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19)
New things often start tiny, like a green sprout poking through the dirt in spring. At first you could miss it if you were not looking. God invites us to look. To notice the sprout. To say, “I see it, God. Something new is growing.”
When you start choosing new ways, it can feel strange at first, like wearing new shoes. Strange does not mean wrong. It usually means you are growing.
Think about it: What is one tiny new thing God might be growing in you right now?
Prayer: God, open my eyes to the new thing You are doing in me. Amen.
Day 6: Think About Good Things
Scripture: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)
Your mind is like a garden too, and thoughts are seeds. Whatever you plant and water is what grows. Thoughts that are true and lovely grow peace. Thoughts that rehearse every mistake and every fear grow weeds.
You cannot stop every weed thought from landing. Birds drop seeds without asking. But you can choose which ones get watered. When a gloomy thought shows up, you can set a true one beside it: God loves me. I am not alone. I can do hard things with His help.
Think about it: What is one true and lovely thought you can plant today?
Prayer: Lord, help me water the true thoughts and pull the weeds. Amen.
Day 7: As for Me and My House
Scripture: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)
Joshua stood in front of everyone and made a brave choice out loud: as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. He could not choose for the whole nation. He chose for his own house, and it changed everything that came after him.
You get to make choices like that too, even now. The choices you make about kindness, honesty, and following Jesus will echo into your future family one day. That is a powerful thing. The old pattern does not have to be the story. With God, you can be the one where a new story begins.
Prayer: God, as for me, I will serve You. Help my choices today build a good story for tomorrow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Blessing to Close the Week
You did it. Seven days of learning that you can choose a new path. Carry this sentence with you all week: the old pattern is not my story, because God is doing a new thing in me.
If a day ever feels too heavy, tell a grown-up you trust. Ask them to pray with you. Asking for help is brave, and God loves to send help through people.
Rest today. You are free, because He set you free. He is right here in the quiet with you.
