When You Feel Weak or Exhausted: 2 Corinthians 12:9

When You Feel Weak or Exhausted: 2 Corinthians 12:9

Love your Legacy Devotional ~ By Tay

Opening Prayer

Jesus, I have nothing left to impress You with today.

No strength, no spark, no second wind. Just me, running on empty, hoping that empty is enough for You.

Meet me here, in the weakness. That is where I am.

Amen.

Scripture Reading

2 Corinthians 12:9

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

Devotional Reflection

You know the feeling of a phone at two percent. The screen dims. Everything slows down. That little red bar glows like a warning light, and you start closing apps, turning off everything extra, just trying to make it last until you can find a charger. That is what exhaustion feels like in the soul. You have been closing apps all week, shutting down everything nonessential, and you are still running out.

Paul knew that feeling. He had something he called a thorn in his flesh, some persistent weakness or suffering he could not pray away. He asked God three times to remove it. Three times. God’s answer was not removal. It was this: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

We tend to read that verse as comfort. Paul heard it as a complete reordering of how strength works.

We treat weakness like a waiting room, a temporary embarrassment we endure until we are strong again. God treats weakness like a meeting place. Weakness is where God sits with you, not where He scolds you. He does not stand at the door of your exhaustion with a clipboard, disappointed that you are not performing better. He pulls up a chair inside it.

“My grace is sufficient.” Sufficient means enough. Not barely enough. Not enough if you try harder. Enough, full stop. His grace does not need your strength as a supplement. It was designed for exactly this moment, the moment you have nothing to add.

“My power is made perfect in weakness.” Perfect here means complete, fully expressed. God’s power shows up most clearly not when you are impressive, but when you are empty. Your weakness is not blocking His power. It is revealing it.

That is why Paul says he will boast about his weaknesses. Not because he enjoys suffering, but because he finally understood the beautiful exchange: his emptiness makes room for Christ’s power to rest on him. Rest. Not strive through him. Not perform for him. Rest on him, the way light rests on everything it touches.

So stop apologising for the two percent. Plug into grace instead. It was made sufficient for exactly this.

Journaling Reflection

  1. What weakness have you been apologising for, to God or to yourself, instead of bringing to Him?

You might start with something like: I keep apologising for being too tired to pray properly, as if exhaustion disqualifies me.

  2. What would change if your weakest place became God’s favourite place to meet you?

It might be something honest, like: I would stop hiding my empty days and start expecting Him in them.

  3. Where do you need His grace to simply be enough today, without you adding anything to it?

You could gently say: in my parenting, where I have nothing left to give, I need His enough to cover my empty.

Closing Prayer

Jesus, my sufficient grace,

Thank You for not requiring me to recharge before You come close. Thank You for sitting with me in the weakness instead of scolding me out of it.

Let Your power rest on me today. I will stop striving and start receiving. Your grace is enough, and today, so am I, because of You.

Amen.
